Foodies
I like it
that you like pomegranates;
strange jewelled fruit, that no one seems to buy,
or know what to do with –
Except us!
And the fact that you adore spinach;
Steaming great platefuls of the stuff
tucked in to as kids;
long before it became fashionable,
designer ‘greens’.
We discovered artichokes together,
A strange and prickly customer,
difficult to handle;
we got our fingers burned and greasy,
peeling, dunking, smacking our lips.
How brave we were to try oysters;
Reviled or over-rated;
Cool and salty and delicious,
so we discovered.
We have always had food in common;
Before we knew each other’s pasts,
and long before we found
it would shape our future.
